What Is Temptation? To believe a lie that leads you to act independently of God’s truth.
Why Are We Tempted?
- Satan – Satan has contempt for God and you.
- World – System influenced by Satan that leaves God out (1 John 2:15-17)
- Flesh – Is allergic to God and addicted to self. (Romans 8:6)
Why Pray Lead Me Not Against Temptation?
1.Flesh is weak – we need God’s Power
2.Flesh is deceitful – we need God’s Protection.
“Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.” Psalm 141:4
The word ‘tested” or “trial” – the context makes the difference.
- Reveals what’s in our hearts
- Fortify and strengthen our wills
- Be an example for others
Is There Any Hope? – YES
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
Whether we are asking for God to lead us away from sin or from difficult trials, our goal is found in the second part of verse 13: “Deliver us from the evil one.”
