Message Title: Grace Goes Out of the Way
Message Text: John 4:1-26
Introduction:
- The normal route was to avoid Samaria. Sychar was a city right in the middle of Samaria. Nazareth was about 90 miles north.
- Samaritans were half Jew and half Assyrians. Seven hundred years before this the Assyrians deported them back to Assyria and sent many Assyrians back to Israel
- They inter-married and brought their false gods.
- This new group are Samaritans adopted a mixed religion because they were a mixed race and culture.
- They built their own Temple in Mt Gerizim because they were not allowed to worship in Jerusalem.
Mission (v.4) He needed to go through Samaria
- Jesus is the divine counselor and has a divine appointment with this woman.
Truth: (v.16-18) The real issue was her heart.
- Her greatest longing was to be loved.
- Human relationships compliment not complete us.
- When you don’t find our wholeness in Jesus we go from one “thing” to another.
Grace (v.13-14, 21-26): Others don’t care about you, but I (Jesus) do. That’s why I came this way
Only Grace can meet the needs of the human heart through a relationship with Jesus.
