Message Text: Romans 12:1-2
Message Truth: Gods biggest and best blessings come to those who surrender.
1.Surrender to God (v.1)
“Therefore, I urge you brothers in the view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, Holy and pleasing to God which is your spiritual “reasonable” act of worship
- Spiritual act worship =Logizomai – that which is reasonable and logical.
- Surrender conjures up what we have to give up…however, its not about what you lose but what you gain.
2.Separate from the World (v.2)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
- Satan- the enemy above us (His motive is murder and his method is the lie) John 8, John 10
- World – the enemy around us – 1 John 2:15
- Flesh – the enemy within us – corrupted human nature, spoiled goodness. Romans 8
World: The system headed up by Satan that leaves God out. (1 John 2:15)
- The lust of the flesh = the passion “to feel”—this is hedonism.
- The lust of the eyes = the passion “to have”—this is materialism.
- The pride of life = the passion “to be”—this is egotism and self-centeredness.
Truth: At the heart of “worldliness” is who you love and who you trust to meet the deepest needs of your life.
Win the Battle of your Mind
The gateway to your heart is your mind. Nobody talks to you more than you. The reason why most Christians live lives of duplicity and inconsistency is their spiritual diet.
- Renewing your mind is a continual surrender. (v.1)
- Renewing your mind will always involve a battle. (1 Peter
- Renewing your mind is a supernatural work of God
- Renewing your mind is a love and appreciation of the Gospel.
